Throw a fireball here, a lightning bolt there, and add a summoned pet for good measure. Those who study the magical arts of Britannia may not be adept with a sword and shield, but few can surpass the power of a learned mage.

There are a few different ways to cast spells in First Dawn:


Spells & Information Every spell is classified by a specific circle. Each circle greatly effects its casting requirements, beneficial and negative effects.

Cast time is shown in seconds
Random(x) = a number is chosen at random no higher then the value of x.

Spell Circle (1)

Light In Lor 5 0.0 2.5 Light allows the user to ignore the effects of darkness from night or from being underground.
Bless Rel Sanct 12 5.0 2.5 Enhances a target's Strength, Intelligence, and Dexterity by a percentage.
Negate Poison An Nox 10 1.0 2.0 Neutralizes poison (higher Magic skill counteracts more intense poison)
Magic Missle Grav Por 8 8.0 1.0 A small, magical missle is cast at the target.
Cannot be resisted.
Heal In Mani 10 10.0 1.0 Restores targets health.
Healing = (1 + Random(15) x (Magic Skill Value) ÷ 100.0)


Spell Circle (2)


Spell Mantra Mana Skill Cast Time Effect
Unlock Ex Por 15 11.0 2.5 Opens locked containers that are under effect of Magic Lock(An Ex Por) Fifth circle
Location In Wis 12 5.0 1.5 Enhances a target's Strength, Intelligence, and Dexterity by a percentage.
Summon Creature Kal Xen 20 15.0 4.25 Allows the caster to summon a random animal to fight by their side.
Summon Limit: Unlimited.
Harm An Mani 12 16.0 1.4 Affects a target within 10 tiles of the caster. Damage is NOT affected by the range to target.
Damage = (Rounded)Magic.Value ÷ 10
Cannot be resisted.
Awaken An Zu 15 20.0 2.75 Awakens your target that is under the effect of the spell Sleep(In Zu), Fifth Circle.

Spell Mantra Mana Skill Cast Time Effect
Wall Of Fire In Flam Grav 20 20.0 2.5 Conjures a wall of fire. Deals 4 damage per second to anyone touching the field. Spreads 5 tiles in a row, perpendicular to the caster, centered on targeted tile.
Wall Of Poison In Nox Grav 25 25.0 3.0 Conjures a wall of poison. Afflicts poison to anyone touching the field. Spreads 5 tiles in a row, perpendicular to the caster, centered on targeted tile.
Conjure Food In Mani Ylem 5 0.0 1.5 Randomly creates food and places it in your backpack. Conjured items disappear after logging out.
Curse Des Sanct 15 28.0 1.75 Lowers the Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence of the target by a percentage (Magic.Value ÷ 10 +1).
Fireball Vas Flam 15 30.0 1.5 Hurls a magical fireball at your target damaging them. Damage = (Rounded)Magic.Value ÷ 7. If resisted, damage is also divided down by 1.5


Spell Circle (4)

Dispel Field An Grav 20 31.0 2.75 Nullifies one tile of a field spell (Wall Of Fire and Wall Of Poison).
Protection Uus Sanct 12 33.0 2.0 Characters under the Protection spell effect can no longer have their spells "disrupted" when hit. As a result, those affected by the spell experience: decreased physical resistance; a reduction of their Magic Defense skill value by -35, and a slower casting speed modifier of 2 points. However, this penalty can lower neither Magic Defense nor the casting speed below 0. This spell will stay on—even after logging out, until you “turn it off” by casting it again. The spell effect will be purged when dying.

Duration = (Seconds)6 x Magic.Value ÷ 5

Reveal Wis Quas 10 35.0 2.25 Reveals any hidden mobiles within a 2 tile radius of the targeted location or object.
Telekinesis Ort Por Ylem 15 38.0 1.25 Allows you to use or move an object that is out of reach. Can be used to set off trapped containers from a safe distance.
Poison In Nox 10 40.0 1.25 Attempts to poison your target. A random element is applied here. Each time the spell is cast a random number between 1 to 150 is chosen. If the casters Magic.Value is >= this random number the poison will be applied in a greater form. Alternatively, its applied at regular levels. If successfully Defended with Magic Defense, no poison will be applied.

Magic Lock An Ex Por 15 43.0 2.25 Locks any targeted container.
Magic Unlock In Ex Por 12 45.0 2.0 Unlocks and removes any effect of Magic Lock(An Ex Por) from a container. The caster whom locked the container before, their Magic.Value greatly effects the chances successfully unlocking.
Sleep In Zu 15 48.0 2.0 Puts your target to sleep. Making them incapable of moving, casting spells and attacking. Can only be undone by being damaged, casting Awaken(An Zu, Second Circle) or Waiting for the effect to time out.

Duration = (Seconds)(Magic.Value ÷ 7 + 1) x 2 + 5
If resisted the duration is ÷ 10, lowering the duration dramatically.

Great Heal Vas Mani 18 51.0 2.25 Greatly restores targets health.
Healing = (Magic.Value x 0.4) + Random(10) + 1;
Great Light Vas Lor 22 55.0 3.75 Similar to the Light(In Lor, First Circle) spell, only this applies to all qualified mobiles within a 3 tile radius of the targeted area or object. This spell will not benefit anything that would otherwise mark the caster as criminal.

Help Kal Lor 80 60.0 4.5 Allows the caster to be returned to safety, may only be used outside of combat. They spell is yet to be mastered, unknown locations are flashed before your eyes while you await your safety.
Incognito Kal In Ex 25 65.0 2.5 Disguises your character with a randomly generated appearance and name.

Check Magic Wis Ort 10 68.0 1.15 Currently used to evaluate any targeted Crossbow for any effects from the Enchant(Ort Ylem, Eighth circle) effect. Gives one good knowledge of he may be getting into.
Mana Drain Ort Rel 10 70.0 1.15 Reduces your targets mana.
Reduced = (Rounded)Magic.Value ÷ 5
If resisted, no mana will be reduced.
Fireworks Bet Ort 20 72.0 1.0 Sets off a magical firework into the sky!


Spell Circle (7)


Spell Mantra Mana Skill Cast Time Effect
Invisibility Sanct Lor 15 77.0 2.0 Turns the targeted mobile invisible. While invisible any movement, speech or spell casting will break the effect.
Duration(Seconds) = Magic.Value x 1.2 (Roughly 120% of the casters magic skill value)
Delayed Blast Tym Vas Flam 15 80.0 2.15 Damages a target with an explosion. Single use, 3.2 second delay between targeting and the explosion.
A dice roll is used here, the possible combinations are
7, 7 and 8. Then multiplied Scaled by (0.5 + Magic.Value ÷ 100.0).
Algorithm: (Dice roll) x Scaled = Damage.
If resisted, Damage is reduced by 0.5 per whole number. >.<
Lightning Ort Grav 20 83.0 1.75 Damages the target with a bolt of lightning.
Damage = (Dice roll: 7,7,8) x (1 + Magic.Value ÷ 100.0). If resisted damage is reduced by 0.5 per whole number.
Energy Bolt Corp Por 25 87.0 2.0 Attacks a target with a bolt of energy.
Damage = (Dice roll: 9,6,8) x (0.5 + Magic.Value ÷ 100.0). If resisted damage is reduced by 0.5 per whole number.
Resurrection In Mani Corp 30 90.0 4.25 Resurrects a dead player. Cannot be used on NPCs, summons or monsters.


Spell Circle (8)


Spell Mantra Mana Skill Cast Time Effect
Tremor In Vas Por Ylem 30 93.0 4.50 Damages nearby creatures and characters with a tremor. This spell requires the caster to have line of sight to the target. Will damage hidden targets. (1/3 of current hitpoints for both players and NPCs. Max and min damages for NPCs: 10 and 100).
Wall Of Sleep In Zu Grav 20 95.0 2.25 Conjures a wall of sleeping effect. Anything touching the field will immediately be under the effects of the Sleep(In Zu, Fifth circle).
Duration(Seconds) = 3.0 + (Magic.Value ÷ 3.0).
Mana Vampire Ort Sanct 20 94.0 2.00 This spell "takes" an amount of mana from the target and returns it to the caster by making a comparison between the caster's current mana level and max mana level. Will not drain more than the target has currently and will not put the caster over his maximum mana.
Meteorite Kal Jux Ylem 35 96.0 2.5 Damages nearby targets with meteors that hit for fire damage split between the targets. if you only hit one target, the target takes between 45-55 damage, modified by intelligence, skills, etc. If you hit more than one target, the damage amount is doubled, and then divided among each target evenly.
Enchant Ort Ylem 50 100.0 3.15 Allows the caster to enchant a Crossbow (within his or her invetory) with a random magical effect that is triggered upon firing the bow.

1 of the 3 following effects are applied randomly:

  • Fireball
  • Magic Missile
  • Energy Bolt

Duration is permanent until the amount of charges have been depleted.
Amount of charges are between 3 to 6.
